By incorporating green practices into our day-to-day operations and bringing green storage to datacenters around the world, 3PAR^® is helping reduce the environmental impact of global business.

3PAR's environmental policies encompass the following green programs and practices:

3PAR Carbon Neutral Storage ProgramWith the Carbon Neutral Storage program, 3PAR customers can effectively deploy 100% carbon neutral storage. Through this initiative, 3PAR augments the inherent energy efficiency of our Utility Storage platform by purchasing carbon offsets for every terabyte of disk capacity sold with 3PAR Thin Provisioning. Since the program's inception in 2007, 3PAR has purchased carbon credits to offset nearly 8,700 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

As part of Carbon Neutral Storage, 3PAR has also awarded several of our customers—including IAC, Edelman, and CACI—with the "Think Thin, Think Green" award and additional carbon offsets in recognition of their capacity-saving efforts and green storage practices. Between these offsets and the disk capacity savings from green storage technologies like 3PAR Thin Provisioning, we estimate that 3PAR customers have achieved a total CO2 emissions reduction of more than 17,000 metric tons since the program began—the equivalent of removing more than 3,000 cars from the road for an entire year.

3PAR Virtual Technology Incentive Program—Energy Rebates through PG&EThrough the 3PAR Virtual Technology Incentive Program (V-TIP), 3PAR customers can extend their energy cost savings by taking advantage of first-ever rebates being offered by PG&E for datacenter storage virtualization and thin provisioning projects. These PG&E rebates are based on the amount of energy savings achieved through storage virtualization and the use of 3PAR Thin Provisioning and other thin technologies from 3PAR.

According to a Wikibon Energy Lab case study, customers replacing older storage technologies with next-generation 3PAR Utility Storage can expect to save as much as 90% on annual energy costs related to powering and cooling their storage systems.

To qualify for financial incentives through the V-TIP PG&E program, you must be a Northern or Central California PG&E customer and you must apply for and be accepted into the rebate program prior to deploying a new 3PAR-based storage implementation.

Internal Waste and Energy ConservationWithin our own organization, 3PAR participates in the following conservation efforts:

Recycling of paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, aluminum, and tin
Fluorescent light collection and de-processing
Collaboration with California-based utility PG&E on designing energy-efficient air-conditioning
California Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) compliance and participation in an approved CRT collection and de-processing program

Green Manufacturing and Compliance Practices3PAR's hardware engineering and manufacturing practices reflect our environmental policy of implementing our green approach into all aspects of our business. This includes participating in the recycling of 3PAR products and components as well as the following practices:

Contracting with ISO 14000 certified third-party service providers to sort, reclaim, and recycle 3PAR products and their components (plastics, PCBAs, and sheet metals)
Marking 3PAR products in accordance with the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive
Product compliance with EU-RoHS and the Japan Green Law

Innovative Product Design3PAR hardware and software products are designed from the ground up to reflect our dedication to reducing the negative environmental impact of storage. This principal drives the research and development of our products in the following ways:

Hardware products, including the InServ Storage Server, that are designed to deliver increased storage efficiency and reduced energy consumption
Software products, such as 3PAR Thin Provisioning, that enable customers to realize a worldwide combined annualized energy savings of approximately US $7 million
Programs such as our Carbon Neutral Storage initiative, through which 3PAR customers have reduced C02 emissions by more than 17,000 metric tons to date—the equivalent of taking nearly 3,000 cars off the road
Reducing the negative impact to the environment through eliminating the use of restricted substances in all product designs
Working internally and with key suppliers to reduce the total energy required for assembly, disassembly, and testing of our products

Environmentally-Conscious Packaging3PAR collaborates with suppliers to reuse packaging. The company also designs its own product packaging to be reusable and recyclable. In addition, 3PAR provides pick-up services from customer sites for reuse and recycling of our packaging.

Employee Participation in Environmental Programs3PAR also supports the following programs to encourage conservation by employees:

Flex Your Power, a partnership of California's utilities, residents, businesses, institutions, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations working to save energy
Spare the Air Day, a program established by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to educate people and change their behaviors in order to increase air quality and reduce pollution
Recycling services and battery collection programs for employees at 3PAR offices worldwide
